That Wanaka Tree
The Lake Wanaka tree has gone from being part of a fence approx. 80 years ago, to something of a star attraction. It's a rare day now even during quieter tourist times for New Zealand, that it stands alone.
Locals never took much notice of it, and it was even used by people harvesting eels. It was a holding tree for ones caught. Placed in a sack and tied to it, the fishermen could keep them alive, until shipping to a market.
Now days it witnesses many a wedding, and relentless "selfies", where it is the background star.
